6 weeks to go!

Hi everyone, things have definitely changed for the better since my last blog. My coach Jerry has made the necessary adjustments in my training and I'm confident i'll be ready to do what I need to do in Houston to punch my ticket to the Olympics.

However, this blog entry is not about my training, thanks to Dave Maloney the founder of charitybets I have an opportunity to not only do something special for myself but also for my community.

How it works: The concept is very simple, you pledge how much you're willing to donate if I run under 2:11 for the marathon (sub 2:11 performance will qualify me for the Olympics). If I end up running my goal time, the proceeds go to the Boys and Girls club of Regina (my hometown). You have three options when donating; you can give a flat rate donation which means your pledge is not tied to my performance, an over under donation means you pledge a certain amount if I run sub 2:11 but if I don't run the time then you only donate a percent of your pledge. A sliding scale donation means the faster I run the more you donate. All donations are Tax deductible.

The Boys and Girls Club does some great work in cities across North America. The mentorship and guidance they provide kids in underprivileged communities can not be overstated. I've seen this first hand through my work with the Big Brother organization here in Portland. I also think back to my own childhood and where I would be today if it weren't for the mentors who changed the trajectory of my life at a young age. One thing is for sure, I know I wouldn't be here writing this blog and preparing for an opportunity to represent my country at the Olympics.

Of course I understand that not everyone can donate so I ask that at the very least you keep the Boys and Girls club in your community in mind the next time you wish to volunteer your time to a good cause.
January 15 has the potential to be a great moment for me and my career and with your help we can also make it a special day for the Boys and Girls club in my hometown!
